The Ganajagaran Mancha activists started a sit-in on Sunday with their vigil ahead of the verdict on Jamaat-e-Islami Leader Ghulam Azam, scheduled for Monday at the International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) on charges of crimes against humanity during the Liberation War. Shortly after Iftar on Sunday, the supporters started gathering at Shahbagh Square, Dr Imran H Sarkar, convener of the Mancha said.
“They will continue their sit-in demonstration till pronouncement of the verdict in the case of Ghulam Azam.” He added.
He also said, their sit-in was part of regular activities like the demonstrations they had staged prior to declaring every verdict on the war criminals.
He further said that the Shahbagh movement, which started with the verdict on top Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah on February 5, would continue until completion of trials of all the war criminals.
The movement started as a protest on the day, where people from all walks of life joined demanding capital punishment for Abdul Quader Mollah, a war criminal.
