Gazi Tank Cricketers joined giants Abahani and Mohamme-dan SC in the Super League of Dhaka Premier Cricket with a thumping nine-wicket victory over Orient SC in the ninth round match on Friday.
With this win Gazi Tanks took their tally to 14 points, just two points behind leaders Abahani and one adrift of Mohammedan means they cannot be thrown out of the elite phase of the league with only two rounds left in the first phase.
Four teams – Old DOHS, Bangladesh Biman, Kalabagan KC and CCS – are vying for the remaining three slots while Victoria SC also have an outside chance of making the super league. Former champions Old DOHS took the pole position among the contenders with a 10-wicket victory over BKSP at the Fatullah stadium, their second win by a maximum margin in a row.
CCS defeated Surjo Tarun by 13 runs at BKSP in the other match of the day.
Gazi Tank Cricketers v Orient SC
Openers Mohammad Mithun and Nasir Hossain built a 118-run stand to lead Gazi Tanks to a nine-wicket win after their bowlers had restricted Orient to 142-9 in a fog-shortened 33-over-a-side match.

Earlier, Sabbir Rahman and Naeem Islam claimed three wickets each to keep Orient under some kind of pressure all through the innings.
Old DOHS v BKSP
Nasir Jamshed scored 80 off 57 balls and former national opener Javed Omar made 53 from 77 balls as Old DOHS did not lose a wicket in their second successive match.
