Gazi TV is likely to broadcast the forthcoming home series against New Zealand after emerging as the highest bidder in an intense marketing battle, officials said on Sunday.
Five companies – Channel 9, Gazi TV and Maasranga TV along with two agencies owned by Rizwan bin Faruk and Intikhab Mahmud participated in the race for the media and broadcasting rights for only the home series against New Zealand.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board had asked the interested channels and marketing agents to submit their offers by 3:00pm on August 31 and the officials said Gazi placed the highest offer of $75,000. Channel-9, which
had telecast Bangladesh’s home series against West Indies, offered $50,000 while Maasranga raised their initial offer of Tk 20 lakh to Tk 50 lakh.
The BCB officials said they are yet to formally award the deal to Gazi, but in all likelihood they will get it as the highest bidder.
Bangladesh will play two Test matches, three one-day internationals and two Twenty20 matches against the Kiwis in October-November.
