Candidates contesting for Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) election are leaving no stones unturned, to woo the voters working in different industrial zones, especially in garment factories. They are also devising different strategies in their campaign, to get the support of this sector. Even bad weather has failed to dampen the spirit of the contestants in their campaign trail. Many garment factories and other industries are located under the GCC and thousands of workers from different districts, who are employed here, have become voters. According to political observers, these voters will play a key role in the election. The 14-party alliance-backed candidate, advocate Azmatullah Khan, 18-Party Alliance-backed candidate, Prof. MA Mannan, and another candidate, Mazbahuddin Sarker Rubel, whose election symbol is a duck, paid several visits to the industrial zones, including Tongi, Gazipur, Konabari and Kashimpur.
To woo the voters, especially belonging to the garment sector, the candidates are promising several development schemes in the industrial zone. They are also toiling hard to get female voters’ support.
Not only the candidates, the leaders of labour organisations, belonging to different political parties, are also toiling hard for their respective candidates, in the garments sector.
