National Human Rights Commission chairman Mizanur Rahman on Friday filed a general diary with Dhanmondi police station against the threat on his life he received on his cell phone on Thursday night.
His private secretary Kazi Arfan Ashique filed the GD on his behalf at around 9.30 AM.
Dhanmondi police station officer-in- charge M Anwar Hossain said in the GD, the complainant mentioned that someone held out the threat on the life of the NHRC chief in a text on his cell phone sent from a Banglalink mobile phone, 01966533896 on Thursday when he was visiting his village home in Gaibandha.
Anwar said the police was trying to identify the person who had held out the threat on the NHRC chief’s life.
Earlier on Friday, Ashique said that RAB and DB had been already informed about the threat and that they were investigating into it.
The text received on Mizan’s mobile reads, ‘You are a satan…You make long speeches. It is mandatory to kill you. You will be killed in seven days. A single bullet is enough to teach you a lesson.’
Before sending the text, the subscriber had called the NHRC chief and asked him not commit ‘excesses’ in protecting human rights, NHRC officials said.
The Detective Branch deputy commissioner (north), Mollah Nazrul Islam, on Friday said that the DB was investigating into the matter. ‘We detected that the call was made from Dhaka,’ he said.
