A teenage girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at Pallabi in the city on Tuesday night.
Afrin Afroze Anika, 18, an HSC student of Mirpur Commerce College was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her bedroom at about 11:00pm.
Shamima Akhter, mother of the dead claimed that Anika committed suicide while her father, Dobir Hussain alleged that his daughter was killed.
Shamima went to her brother’s house at Mirpur-1 to have a dinner leaving Anika at home.
As she could not reach Anika over the phone since 10:00pm, she returned home in a hurry and found her daughter’s body hanging from a ceiling fan.
Anika was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the doctors declared her dead.
However, Anika’s father who was at his village home in Gopalganj on Tuesday night alleged Anika was killed and he demanded his daughter’s autopsy immediately.
His wife had told him over the phone that she had found the door of the flat wide open when she returned home, Dobir Hussain told the reporters.
