The teenaged girl, who was molested on Tuesday by two policemen in the Police Club near the judges’ courts in Dhaka, gave her deposition
late Wednesday night to a committee the police set up for an investigation.
The girl and her parents , accompanied by six lawyers of Ain o Salish Kendra, gave their depositions to the committee, headed by additional deputy commissioner of police Maruf Hossain, for about three hours beginning about 9:00pm.
The girl and her parents came out about 12:15am on Thursday and they were waiting in a car outside the office of the deputy commissioner of the Lalbagh zone of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police at Nababpur for the lawyers, who were still inside the office till 1:00am.
Earlier in the evening, the girl’s mother filed a case with the Kotwali police accusing five policemen.
Some policemen molested and assaulted the girl and beat up her parents inside the Police Club and in front of the Dhaka magistrate’s court.
The police molested the girl confining her to a room in the Police Club for allegedly protesting at the
police claim that the motorcycle her father was riding was stolen from someone else.
Ain o Salish Kendra took the family in their custody on Tuesday evening.
The victims went to the office of the deputy commissioner of police to give their depositions as the administration requested them to do so.
The chief metropolitan magistrate, Bikash Kumar Saha, had a meeting with leaders of Dhaka Court Reporters’ Association and police officials Harun-or-Rashid, Rajib Al Masud and Salauddin Khan on Wednesday on the issue.
The Dhaka Bar Association president, Md Borhanuddin, and the general secretary, Mohammad Ali Hossain, and Dhaka metropolitan public prosecutor Abdullah Abu were also present.
The lawyers and journalists at the meeting demanded that the deputy commissioner Harun should take punitive action against the police personnel, including the Kotwali police officer-in-charge Salauddin, responsible for Tuesday’s incident.
The DCRA president, Dulal Mitra, its former presidents Chaitanya Chandra Halder, Munjur Alam and Syed Ahmed Gazi, its general secretary Mahbubul Haque and its former secretary general Anwarul Kabir Babul and some lawyers and journalists, who were assaulted by the police in the place on Tuesday, attended the meeting.
