Another teenager’s body recovered
Police recovered the body of a four-year-old girl, yesterday, from an underground reserve tank of a building at Banshbari, Mohammadpur while an unidentified teenage girl was found dead at Beribadh of Shah Ali in the city.
Sadia Akhter, 4, adopted daughter of Enamul Haque had been missing since last Sunday, police said.
Residents of the five-storey building which was next to Sadia’s tin-shed house discovered the bloated body of the child after they opened the tank around 11:30am, and informed the police.
We checked the underground reserve as we were getting putrid water from the taps, Abul Hossain, a resident of the building told The Daily Star.
As the tank was found unlocked, Sadia’s foster parents could not ascertain whether the girl fell into the tank accidentally or someone deliberately pushed her in there.
On the morning of February 27 Ferdousi Begum, Sadia’s foster mother went out on an errand and found the child missing after she returned home after an hour, she said.
“We looked for her everywhere, shouted announcements over the loud speaker, placed a report in a newspaper and even filed a general diary with Mohammadpur Police Station, but we could not find her,” said a heartbroken Enamul.
Habil Hossain, sub-inspector (SI) of Mohammadpur Police Station said that they were investigating the incident to see whether it was an “accident” or a “crime.”
Meanwhile, Shah Ali Police recovered the body of an unidentified teenage girl yesterday from near a makeshift shop at Nobaberbagh of the area at about 9:00am.
Locals discovered the body and informed the police, who sent it to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.
There were signs of strangulation and other marks of injury were found on her left jaw and neck, according to morgue sources.
Police suspect criminals strangled the girl and dumped her body.
“We are trying to ascertain the identity of the deceased,” Abdul Bari, sub-inspector (SI) of Shah Ali Police Station told The Daily Star.
A murder case has been filed in this connection with Shah Ali Police Station.
