GMG Airlines, the first and largest private airline in Bangladesh today (Saturday) unveiled its new logo and inducted a Boeing 767-300ER in its fleet, reflecting the company’s true spirits and renewed endeavours to rule the skies through expanding wings, and providing warmth and hospitability to its customers.
Muhammed Faruk Khan, MP, Minister for Commerce, unveiled the new and vibrant logo at a ceremony held at the Hotel Radisson Water Garden in the city amid presence of senior government officials, noted businessmen and company officials.
The strikingly vivacious colour-burst new logo represents the metamorphosis of a beautiful butterfly spreading its colourful wings with a new vibrant beginning, with resilience its spirit, the vibrancy and dynamism of its soul and the unquenchable thirst to reach for the skies in delivering the best possible hospitality to the air travellers.
Addressing the event Faruk Khan said that the government will provide all-out support to private airlines along with the national carrier Biman to boost the aviation sector of the country.
“The present government has a plan to build more domestic airports in different cities of country,” Khan added.
Salman F Rahman, Vice Chairman of Beximco Group, which owns the majority shares of the airline said that with re-branding itself, the airline would vigorously, rejuvenated itself as a major carrier in the region.
He said that that the new logo is considered a defining milestone in the process of change, reflecting GMG’s spirit of flying.
“BEXIMCO is fully committed to transform GMG into a world-class airline with traditional Bangladeshi hospitality with our product customized specifically to our customers’ needs in all segments” said Mr. Salman F Rahman at the occasion.
Shahab Sattar, Managing Director of GMG airlines said that the new journey of the airline begins with the launching of the new logo, leaving the 12 years of turbulent past.
‘As the first private airline, we have faced a lot of challenges during the past 12 years, but successfully have overcome the challenges to move forward,’ Mr. Shahab said at the programme.
He said that GMG was the process of acquiring more aircrafts to expand its international routes.
Earlier, in a separate event, GMG Airlines received the Boeing 767-300ER aircraft with 264 seating capacity (12 business class and 252 economy class) at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Shafique Alam Mehdi, Secretary to the Civil Aviation and Tourism ministry was present at the programme as the Chief Guest while Air Cdre Mr. Sakeb Iqbal Khan Majlis, Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh as the special guest.
Salman F Rahman, Vice Chairman of Beximco Group, Shahab Sattar, Managing Director of GMG Airlines and senior government and company officials were present during the ceremony.
GMG Airlines now operates five flights to Dubai per week. Two MD-82 and one MD-83 aircraft operates on its international routes.
Beside the UAE, GMG now flies to six other international destinations- New Delhi, Kolkata, Kuala Lumpur, Kathmandu, Karachi and Bangkok.
GMG Airlines now operates with three Canadian Bombardier Dash-8 on domestic and regional routes. It connects the capital with four domestic stations- Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Jessore and Sylhet.
GMG Airlines, owned by the industrial conglomerate Beximco, started operations on April 6, 1998. It began with domestic services and launched international flights in September 2004, with flights between Chittagong and Kolkata.
