The ministry for youth and sports allocated Tk 10 crore to the Bangladesh Olympic Association for the preparation of upcoming South Asian Games, said officials on Monday.
The money is an addition to Tk one crore that government had already disbursed against a demand of Tk 16 crore 75 lakh. A BOA official said, the ministry promised them to consider their further
demand of Tk 10 crore for the participation of the 12th edition of the meet, scheduled to be held from January 10-20, 2016 in India.
The BOA however said, it needs more money for the training purpose.
‘Ministry [for youth and sports] allocated
Tk 10 crore for training which is almost half
of our estimated budget,’ BOA’s deputy secretary general Ashikur Rahman Miku told New Age on Monday.
‘Sports ministry always demands international success from us but when they cut short their aide, it’s difficult for us to fulfill their wish.’
The lack of budget also forced them to cut short the daily allowance for the athletes, informed Miku.
