BNP terms it a personal vendetta against Yunus
Condemning the government’s move to amend the Grameen Bank ordinance, the main opposition BNP yesterday said the government has initiated the move to destroy the bank in a planned way.
Expressing its concern over the step, the BNP asked the government to save the institution by rescinding the decision.
“They [govt] have got involved in such a hateful conspiracy for their personal vendetta against the Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus,” party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in a statement.
The government is blinded by a personal hatred against the microlender, which is protecting the interests of millions of poor people. It is destroying the national image by harming and defaming world renowned Prof Yunus and Grameen Bank, he complained.
The BNP leader vowed to oppose this “destructive” decision by uniting the people irrespective of party affiliation, opinion, class or profession.
Signed by party’s Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the statement was issued a day after the cabinet approved a plan to amend the ordinance to give more power to the Grameen Bank chairman to pick its managing director.
“The Awami League government never paid attention to the interests of the people and the country. They pushed the people into misery by breaking their promises regarding the development and prosperity of the country,” said the statement.
The government continues to attack someone until he is destroyed completely, if it considers them as the enemy, mentioned Fakhrul.
