All government, semi-government, autonomous offices, banks and educational institutions reopen today after Eid and Puja holidays.
Government employees enjoyed a longer vacation this time as the four-day public holidays for Durga Puja and Eid-ul-Azha in October 14-17 were followed by the weekend in October 18-19.
Most businesses, including markets, remained closed on Saturday in the city although many private offices resumed work after the vacation on the day.
Most educational institutions will also reopen today after the holidays.
However, holiday hangover still persists in Dhaka with most of the holidaymakers yet to return to the capital. It may take a few more days before the
capital becomes busy with activities.
Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims, was celebrated on October 16
and Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of
the Bengali Hindu community, was celebrated on October 14.
The holidays at all offices in the public sector virtually began on October 11 (Friday) and ended on October 19 (Saturday) with a single intervening working day on October 13.
