The government has decided to intensify monitoring activities in implementation of mega development projects including Padma Multipurpose Bridge for ensuring speedy execution of projects under fast track initiative, officials of the Economic Relations Division said.
ERD has also decided in principle to include the Matarbari 1200 MW power plant project under fast track initiative, they said.
ERD is also planning to formulate a set of directives for the project directors and implementing agencies to ensure speedy execution of those projects, they said.
Fast Track Project Monitoring Task Force, headed by principal secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, monitors the implementation progress of these projects for ensuring their timely execution.
The task force works under the Fast Track Project Monitoring Committee headed by the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina.
Currently, there are six projects including Padma bridge, deep sea port, metro rail, Rampal Power Plant, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and LNG Terminal project under the fast track initiative.
Officials said that project implementing agencies would now have to send the latest progress report on implementation of six large development projects to principal secretary at Prime Minister’s Office every month.
The task force member secretary Farida Nasreen, also a joint secretary at ERD, has recently sent letters to the execution ministries for sending the progress reports by 15 of every month.
Under the plan, task force will sit with project directors and other high officials involved with the projects regularly to review the progress.
It will be easy for the task force to remove impediments, if any, in the process of project execution and give regular instructions to the officials involved with the projects, they said, adding that proper and timely execution of those projects are very important for the country to improve power supply situation and communication facilities and accelerate economic growth.
Project directors will have to inform the committee instantly if they face any problems related to project implementation.
Even now, the task force regularly sits with the officials but such meetings will be more frequent, an official of ERD told New Age.
The monitoring activities on implementation process will now be more intensified, he said.
Matarbari power project will be included in the fast track process at the next meeting of the committee, he added.
