Japanese clothing giant Uniqlo will open its first two stores in the capital today for providing high-quality cloths at affordable prices which will be stitched locally.
The initiative is part of a social business venture between global clothing giant Fast Retailing, which owns Uniqlo and Grameen Healthcare Trust which will be branded under Grameen Uniqlo.
Japanese Ambassador in Dhaka Shiro Sadoshima and Fast Retailing Group senior vice president and chief executive officer of Grameen Uniqlo Yukihiro Nitta will jointly open the two outlets – first at Elephant Road and then at Banasree in the city.
Grameen Uniqlo started its operation in Bangladesh as part of its long-term commitment to address poverty, hygiene, environment and educational and gender inequality.
The stores, to be operated by the tie-up Grameen-Uniqlo, will be the first in Bangladesh from a leading global retailer, and will offer quality products within the range of Tk 190 to Tk 750 ($2.49-$9.99).
Grameen Uniqlo started its operation in Bangladesh in 2010 for rural economically disadvantaged communities.
