Form human chain demanding fresh tests
The guardians in Rajshahi city demonstrated on Sunday, demanding holding of fresh tests for admission into Class III.
They said that the results of the admission test held at six government schools in the city on Friday were tampered.
They demanded holding of fresh tests without repeating the irregularities.
They stood up at the Saheb Bazaar Zero Point forming a human chain in protest against irregularities and corruption in the admission test.
Speakers at the guardians’ demonstration said that gross irregularities and corruption made the admission test a useless exercise for many of the successful admission seekers as they were deliberately dropped.
They said that the examination committee announced the results at 3:00pm on Saturday on public address system from the PN Government Girls’ School.
Subsequently, they said, on the same day the examination committee hanged a result sheet on the notice board dropping the names of many selected students.
When asked, Ferdousi Rahman Happy, the headmistress of PN Government Girls School and a member of the examination committee, told New Age that a Class IV employee of the school made some mistakes while announcing the results on the public address system.
‘Later, we hanged the corrected and final results,’ she said.
In a memorandum, submitted to the deputy commissioner, who is also the president of admission test committee, they demanded an investigation into the irregularities and punishment to the guilty.
The DC, Delwar Bakth told New Age that he already constituted a committee headed by a senior officer to investigate into the allegations.
He said that a decision would be taken after the committee gave its report.
Speaking at the demonstration angry guardians demanded punishment to the guilty after holding an investigation into the irregularities, corruption and result tampering in the admission test for class three held at six governmental schools in the city.
Expressing solidarity with the guardians the activists and leaders of socio-cultural, political organisations and the civil society joined the demonstration.
They described the demands of the guardians as `quite logical.’
Guardians said that due to the irregularities they felt cheated.
The guardians threatened to go for a tougher action programme against the examination committee if their demands were not meet immediately.
To begin with, they announced that they would hold a mass protest rally at Rajshahi College today.
