The authorities of Bangladesh Bank Adarsha High School are forcing students to attend classes at the building which has developed cracks, alleged students and guardians.
The guardians said they were worried about their children being exposed to risk as cracks have been spotted in the buildings of the education institution. The authorities had spotted cracks in the fourth floor of the school building in late April and they did not suspend classes and asked guardians to send students to classes or their studentship would be cancelled, guardians told New Age on Wednesday.
However, the school authorities said although cracks were found in the fourth floor, the rest of the building was safe for the students.
About 3,500 students are enrolled in the school.
A numbers of guardians said after spotting the cracks, the school authorities had plastered the spots.
‘When we asked the authorities about safety of the students, they warned that if students do not attend classes, their studentship would be cancelled. So, we are passing our days in anxiety,’ a guardian of Class IX student told New Age.
Bangladesh Bank Adarsha High School assistant headmaster Rabindranath Gayen said after spotting the cracks in the fourth floor they had contacted with experts. ‘Engineers said the rest of the school building was safe,’ he added.
Rabindranath said they did not threaten any students and guardians with canceling studentship.
Cracks were spotted in many of the buildings of renowned education institutions such as Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, the second branch of Manipur School and College, Motijheel Ideal School and College, South Point School and College and others.
The South Point School and College has extended the suspension of classes at its Malibagh section till Monday as it was yet to get the report of an expert team that surveyed the building.
The school suspended classes for four days on April 29 when cracks were found in the building’s top floors.
