Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested three accused, including the prime suspect of the double murder in city’s Gulshan area, at Gabkhan under Jhalakati sadar upazila yesterday.
They arrested accused are: Rubel, 25, his associate Mithun Chandra Chanda, 25, and Rubel’s brother-in-law Rabbi, police said.
In a press briefing Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner AKM Shahidul Haq told reporters at DB office that on secret information the DB police conducted a drive in the early hours of yesterday at Rabbi’s village home at Gabkhan in Jhalakati district and arrested all the three accused. Later they have been brought to Dhaka.
The DMP Commissioner said the accused confessed their involvement in the murder.
Earlier, Rubel shot Sadequr Rahman and his wife Romana Nargis dead in their flat at Kalachandpur on Wednesday as they declined to marry their daughter off to him.
After the incident, Rubel and Mithun went to Rabbi’s rented house at Rupganj and from there they went into hiding at Rabbi’s village home in Jhalakati district.
Rubel yesterday confessed that he shot Sadequr Rahman and his wife Romana Nargis dead at their Kalachandpur residence in the capital’s Gulshan area on March 24.
Rubel also said Mithun, who accompanied him during the incident, did not know that he was carrying any firearm.
Rubel further said the firearms, which he used on March 24, had been collected from a local criminal.
The police, however, did not impound the arms.
On Saturday, Rapid Action Battalion arrested Delwar Hossain Dipu, a close friend of the main accused Rubel, at Tongi in Gazipur.
However, Kamal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station told this correspondent on the incident that Rubel tried to develop a relation with a school going student Iti over the last one year but Iti’s family did not accept it, as he was a drug addict.
Rubel had yaba addiction, as they came to know that Rubel was a drug addict they forbade Iti to develop any relation with Rubel.
Meanwhile, family members Iti told this correspondent that OC Kamal Uddin is trying to save the killers showing them as drug addicts.
In another incident, DB police arrested four miscreants in connection with the killing case of Didarul Alam, an official of Department of Youth Development from the city’s Kadamtali and Fakirarpool areas.
The arrested are Saidul, 23, Kana Liton, 32, Lavlu and Alamgir.
Monirul Islam, DC of DB South said that a team of DB police arrested Saidul and Liton from Tushardhar area in Kadamtali police station yesterday.
Later, as per their confessional statement, they arrested their two accomplices – Lavlu and Alamgir – from the Gamirdar Potti of Fakirarpul along with three sharp knives which were used in the killing.
Monirul also said the arrested miscreants confessed that they had killed Didarul in a bid to snatch his belongings.
Earlier, on March 21 the snatchers at S Alam bus counter in Arambagh killed Didarul, who officially posted in Chandpur as trainer. He came to Dhaka by a bus of S Alam Paribahan from Chittagong for official works.
