Popular singer/composer Habib performed along with his father Ferdous Waheed in a concert at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Gulshan on Saturday.
The father-son duo was accompanied by Mithun Chakraborty on drums and Emon Chowdhury on guitar at the programme.
The tiny Gulshan auditorium of IGCC was jam-packed with audience. While some stood at the entrance, many left disheartened not being able to secure a spot.
Habib commenced the musical evening with his famous, romantic number Din gelo tomar potho chahiya, which instantly set the atmosphere. Habib cheerfully interacted with the audience to keep them connected throughout the programme.
The contemporary music icon presented his well-known numbers one by one. His rendering of Hasan Raja’s Loke bole o bole re in his signature style engrossed the audience. Renowned folk bard Shah Abdul Karim’s songs Maya lagaichhe, Krishna ailo radhar kunje, Age ki sundor din kataitam, Keno piriti baraila re bondhu fused with western instruments- keyboard, drums and guitar- captivated the audience.
Ferdous Wahid also got jovial appreciation from the audience by presenting hit numbers of the eighties. His presentation of very famous 80’s song Age Jodi jantam tobe mon fire chaitam made the audience, mostly the elderly ones, experience a powerfully nostalgic moment. He was also applauded for his rendering of songs like Ekta mon manushi boisha ache, Emon ekta ma dena and Ei je duniya kisero lagiya for which Habib did the sound engineering.
Habib concluded the musical evening with his romantic number Bhalobashbo bashbo re bondhu.
It is noteworthy that audience of a diverse age group rejoiced the performances in high spirits.
A delighted Airin Shirin told, ‘I am a fan of Habib. It was a great pleasure to watch him perform live.’
But a disheartened Raihan Reza, who could not manage a place, expressed, ‘IGCC should have arranged the programme at their Dhanmondi auditorium to accommodate more people for this kind of show.’
