Musician Habib Wahid has already firmly established himself in the music industry through his melodious compositions and his signature remixes. Recently he has been bestowed with the greatest honour for any musician in the country, the National Award-2011.
Habib has won the best award as the music director for the film Projapati. ‘It’s always great to get your work recognised and National Award is the most prominent achievement, so I am really happy,’ informed Habib at an interview with New Age.
‘An award is an inspiration for an artiste to do even better in the future,’ added the able musician, who has already been admired as the music composer for movies such as Hridoyer Kotha, Akash Chowa Bhalobasha, I Love You, Eito Prem, Third Person Singular Number, Amar Achhe Jol, and several others.
According to Habib, working for a film is always a challenging endeavour. ‘We have to maintain a context as well as framework when ever we create music for a film and it is also applicable for advertisement jingles though jingles are shorter,’ observed Habib.
Unlike songs for an individual album, several minds work together for a film song in terms of sharing ideas and improvising. ‘Whenever I work for a film, I have to take into account the perspectives of the director and sometimes even the producer; therefore, the quality of music produced is much better,’ shared Habib, who has already released 12 music albums.
Habib is currently enjoying a much deserved leisure after release of his latest album Swadhin. ‘After Swadhin, I am now taking a break and finding time for myself’, the musician chirped happily.
Son of popular pop singer Ferdous Wahid, Habib emerged as a talented experimental music composer in the early 1990s. His folk fusion album Krishna earned tremendously positive responses from the music lovers in Dhaka and London. Subsequently, as a composer/director, Habib has also released a number of solo music albums — Maya, Moina Go…, Shono!, Panjabiwala, Bolchhi Tomake and Aboseshe.
