Bangladesh national cricket team’s fielding coach Richard Halsall could follow his compatriot Heath Streak as he is unwilling to continue at the end of his present term in June, Bangladesh Cricket Board sources said on Friday. Halsall conveyed his decision to head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe and is unlikely to return from England, where he leaves. The Zimbabwean-born former England fielding coach Halsall joined BCB as the national team’s fielding coach in 2014 for two years with his tenure set to expire in June.
His decision came at a time when the BCB was dealing with the blow of losing pace bowling coach Heath Streak, who confirmed his decision of leaving Bangladesh role through an e-mail.
BCB’s cricket operation manager Akram Khan refused to confirm the decision of Halsall, saying that he only heard about it.
‘I heard that he could be leaving,’ Akram said on Friday. ‘But he did not inform us officially anything.
‘But we have to work on finding a new fielding coach as well if he eventually decides to quit,’ he said.
Sources said Hathurusinghe expressed his desire to recruit Sri Lanka’s Chamida Vaas and Upul Chandana respectively as new pace bowling and fielding coach.
