Ruling Awami League on Monday picked up Rejwan Ahmed Toufiq, the eldest son of the President Abdul Hamid, as its candidate for Kishoreganj-4 by-election scheduled for July 3.
Awami League Parliamentary Board (ALPB) came up with the decision at its adjourned meeting at the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence Ganobhaban on Monday night. Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League president, chaired the hour-long meeting that began at 9 pm here.
Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam briefed the newsmen about the discussion after the meeting was over.
He said, “10-member ALPB unanimously selected Toufiq for the by-election to the Kishoreganj-4 constituency.”
ALPB members Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Suranjit Sengupta, Obaidul Quader, Dr Alauddin Ahmed and Syed Ashraful Islam were, among others, present at the meeting.
The Awami League general secretary said, “the party leaders from Kishoreganj also selected Toufiq as their candidate for the by-elections.” One person collected the nomination form and submitted it for the by-polls.
The Election Commission on May 22 announced that the by-polls to Kishoreganj-4 constituency (Itna-Mithamain and Astagram) would be held on July 3.
