The contractor of the under-construction Gulistan-Jatrabari flyover, also known as Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover, has been directed to hand over the flyover to the Dhaka South City Corporation by February 28 next year. Besides, the state minister for LGRD and cooperatives, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, on Monday also directed for shifting the gas, power, water and telephone lines in the area by August 18.
The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, will inaugurate the flyover on March 26 next year.
The junior minister gave the directives at a review meeting on the progress of shifting the utility service lines at the flyover site.
The meeting was told that the Dhaka WASA shifted its lines on July 30, while the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited and the Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited would shift their lines in the next three days, and the Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited by August 18.
On June 22, 2010, the prime minister inaugurated the construction work of the 10-km flyover, stretching from Dhaka-Chittagong Highway up to Plassey through Gulistan and Kaptan Bazar.
The Orion Group is constructing the flyover for the government, under which it would bear the construction cost and realise the money by charging levy on users of the flyover for a certain period.
The flyover will be named after the first Dhaka City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Hanif.
