The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, and the leader of the opposition, Khaleda Zia, on Monday exchanged greetings on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, likely to be celebrated on August 9.
Prime minister’s protocol officer Sheikh Akther Hossain handed over her Eid card to assistant private secretary to leader of the opposition Mohammad Suratuzzaman at her office in parliament building at noon.
Suratuzzaman told New Age that on behalf of Khaleda Zia, also the Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson, he handed over her Eid card to prime minister’s protocol officer Sheikh Akhter at the prime minister’s office at 1:00pm.
Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated either on August 9 or August 10 depending on sighting of the moon.
Two arch political rivals Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia usually exchange greetings on different religious and national celebrations.
