A High Court (HC) judge on Sunday felt embarrassed to hear on bail petitions filed by some top BNP leaders including its acting secretary general Mirza Fakrul Islam Alamgir in connection with five cases filed against them over violence. The other leaders, who filed the bail petitions are Mirza Abbas, Abdullah Al Noman, Goyeswar Chandra Roy, Aman Ullah Aman and Moazzem Hossain Alal.
The petitions came up at the daily ‘cause list’ of a HC bench comprising Justice Quamrul Islam Siddiqui and Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain. But, junior judge of the HC bench Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain felt embarrassed for hearing on the petitions.
Fakhrul faces five cases while Abbas, Noman and Roy faces six and Alal faces seven cases.
Police filed the cases against them on charges of torching and damaging vehicles, and attacking cops during the violence in the city’s Kakrail, Shantinagar and Shahjahanpur areas on March 2. Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokan appeared for the petitioners.
