The High Court (HC) on Wednesday directed the authorities concerned to provide food immediately at the Salimullah orphanage situated at Azimpur in the city.
The HC asked the President Khaza Zaki Ahsanullah and Secretary Anisur Rahman of the orphanage to submit a compliance report before it within a week. It also asked them to appear before it on May 20 to explain their position over the issue, if they fail to implement the HC order within this period.
The HC bench comprising Justice Mirza Hossain Haider and Justice Md Khurshid Alam Sarker passed the orders following a writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).
The HRPB filed the petition on behalf of one Murshalin seeking HC directive to provide food for the orphan boys.
The students of the orphanage launched movements against the president and secretary of the management committee for their involvement in corruption. Soon after the movement of the students, the management stopped withdrawing money from the concerned bank account. Hence, the students faced immense suffering due to the lack of meal.
The HRPB provided two meals for 250 orphans on Wednesday. Advocate Manzill Murshid appeared for the petitioner.
