The High Court on Wednesday ordered judicial inquiry into the killing of six students by a mob on July 18 at Aminbazar on the outskirts of the capital.
The HC division bench comprising Justice Farid Ahmed and Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif directed the chief judicial magistrate of Dhaka to form a one–member committee with a judicial magistrate to probe into the incident.
The court also asked the committee to submit the report before it within 30 days.
The HC bench passed the order following a supplementary petition filed by advocate Tajul Islam, secretary general of National Forum for Protection of Human Rights (NFPHR), seeking direction from the HC over the incident.
The same bench on July 20 asked the government to explain in 10 days why the concerned members of law enforcement agency should not be punished for failing to save the students.
It also issued a rule asking the government to explain why it should not be directed to give compensation to the family members of the students.
The court issued the rule upon a writ petition filed by NFPHR following reports published and broadcasted in different media.
The rule is now pending before the HC bench.
The home secretary, inspector general of police, commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), DMP deputy commissioner, superintendent of police of Dhaka, and officers-in-charge of Savar and Ashulia Police Stations have been made respondents to the rule.
