The High Court on Wednesday asked the RAJUK chairman, two officers-in-charge (OCs) and sub-inspectors (SIs) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and Pallabi police stations, managing director and a director of the Sagufta group and contractors Osman Ali and Sazzad to appear before it on August 2 in connection with the death of a college student.
The HC bench, comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore, passed the order, while the two OCs and Osman Ali appeared before the court as per its earlier directive.
On July 26, the same HC bench had asked the two OCs to arrest Khaled Mohammad Jewel Mollah and Walik Mollah, MD and director, respectively, of the Sagufta group. However, they have not been arrested
yet.
The OCs told the court on Wednesday that they had sent two SIs to arrest the accused persons as per the court order, but the SIs did not find them in their house. The HC asked the two SIs to appear before it on August 2 to explain their position.
Advocate Anisul Huq, counsel for the Sagufta group, submitted an application stating that his clients are undergoing treatment for serious illness. “Thus, they are unable to appear before the court today,” he added.
On July 16, Habibur Rahman Munna, 18, an HSC examinee of Tejgaon College, died as a brick fell on his head from the 10th floor of an under-construction site of the Sagufta group in the Panthapath area of the capital.
A day after the incident, the same bench issued a suo motu rule asking the chairman, MD and director of the Sagufta group to appear before it on July 26 to explain their position on the incident.
