Prosecution placed opening statement against former Awami League leader Mobarak Hossain regarding his involvement in crimes against humanity during the liberation war at the International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) on Thursday. The three-member tribunal, chaired by Justice ATM Fazle Kabir, set May 20 to start hearing depositions from the witnesses. On behalf of prosecution, Advocate Zahid Imam placed opening statement, while Advocate Ahsanul Huq Hena appeared for Mobarak.
The tribunal framed charge against former Awami League leader Mobarak Hossain on five counts on April 23.
According to prosecution, Mobarak was involved in genocide causing death of 33 people in a single incident at Akhaura in 1971. He (Mobarak) was directly involved in genocide, murder, abduction, torture and other crimes against humanity. He led the operation to pick up 132 people and later killed 33 of them.
