The cyclonic storm, ‘Helen’, over the west-central Bay and adjoining area moved slightly westwards. It was centred at 3:00pm on Wednesday about 1200 kilometres southwest of Chittagong port, 1150 kms southwest of Cox’s Bazar port and 1040 kms southwest of Mongla port.
It is likely to intensify further and move in a west-northwesterly direction, said a special bulletin of the Met Office.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 kms of the deep depression centre is about 62 kph rising to 88 kph in gust or squalls.
Sea will remain very rough near the storm centre.
The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Mongla have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal number 2.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
They are also advised not to venture into deep sea.
