All 19 players of the Bangladesh national hockey team, who went to Germany to play for different clubs as part of their preparation for the upcoming Asian Games, returned home on Thursday. The team had gone to Germany on July 29.
Rach Gerhard Peter, the German coach of the national hockey team who accompanied the team in Germany, will arrive in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Rasel Mahmud Jimmy, the ace forward, termed the tour as a fruitful one. ‘We played four practice matches against club teams and won three, the fitness levels of the players have improved and we also have tried new tactics, the tour I believe will prove as a useful one,’ said Jimmy.
In the last Asian Games in Doha in 2006, Bangladesh lost 6-1 to India, were thrashed by Korea 9-1 and conceded a 6-1 defeat to Malaysia. The only win came against Oman and the scoreline was 5-3.
Bangladesh have been grouped with Commonwealth Games silver medallists India, Pakistan, Hong Kong and Japan in pool B.
Zahid Hossain, Hosni Mobarak Sumon, Monwar Hossain Russel, Imran Hasan Pintu, Taposh Barman, Sheikh Mohammad Nannu, Moshiur Rahman Firoz, Iqbal Nadir Prince, Masud Alam Habul and Shamsul Alam Sujan played for SW Bonn while Rasel Mahmud Jimmy and Mamunur Rahman Chayan took the field for DSD Dusseldorf. Quamruzzaman Rana and Hasan Jubair Niloy played for CR Duisburg and Moshiur Rahman Biplob, Puskar Khisha Mimo, Enamul Kabir Turjo and Krishna Kumar played for SV Wien.
