BNP chairperson and leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia has warned the government that a tough movement would be waged nationwide if the next general election is not held under a non-party caretaker government (CG) system. “Holding of a peaceful and impartial next general election under Hasina administration is impossible. Restoration of the non-party CG provision to the constitution is a must or else we will wage a tough movement after the month of Ramzan,” Khaleda Zia warned.
Khaleda Zia also the former premier was addressing an iftar party hosted by Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh a political component of BNP-led 18-party alliance at a hotel in the capital on Saturday.
Terming the government as killer and corrupt, Khaleda Zia also urged the ruling Awami League to testify its popularity paving the path of holding the next general election under a non-party CG oversight.
“I am sure that the people have rejected the Awami League-led grand alliance government with detest,” she claimed.
She criticised the government for its failure to hold impartial civic body polls and said no transparent election is possible keeping the incumbent cabinet in office.
Describing the government as repressive, Khaleda Zia has asked the people to offer prayers to get rid of its acts of repression and oppression. The people from all walks of life have to be united against the government’s misdeeds and mismanagement, she added.
Khaleda Zia also assailed the government for letting loose repression on those engaged in carrying out movement at Shahbagh point against quota system.
“Terrorist forces of the ruling Awami League in association with the police forces launched attack on agitated students indiscriminately to daunt their demand,” she claimed.
Soon after taking charge, the government has started letting loose repression on the countrymen as well as the opposition party men. It has also started grabbing and looting state resources using state power, she blamed.
Khaleda Zia also chief of the 18-party alliance criticised the Election Commission and the police forces for their partisan role during the recently held local body government election.
The country is passing through a critical moment. In this context, people want a change anyhow and that will have to be ensured through fulfilling their hopes and aspiration, she said.
BNP leaders Moudud Ahmed, Jamiruddin Sircar, MK Anwar, Rafiqul Islam Mia, Mirza Abbas, Liberal Democratic party chairman Oli Ahmed and leaders of the 18-party alliance were present at the iftar party with AKM Nozir Ahmed Naybe Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami in the chair.
