Election commissioner Abu Hafiz said on Sunday it would be difficult to hold the forthcoming general election with the parliament in place.
It would be easier to hold the election dissolving the parliament” Abu Hafiz said while talking to the newsmen at his office in the EC. The Election Commission (EC) does not have the jurisdiction to take decision about the dissolution of parliament to hold the election, he said adding that it is up to the political parties to take decision on this issue. Hafiz said, “It is not the EC to take decision about the election time government. It is up to the politicians to decide whether the parliament will be in place or dissolved during the election.” “EC always wants to create a congenial atmosphere to hold the election in a free, fair and credible manner,” Hafiz added.
In reply to a query, he said EC did not do anything that could draw criticism from the opposition. “EC has done nothing impartial so far,” he said. He also stressed the need for a balanced code of conduct regarding the dissolution of the parliament.
Earlier, Prime Minister’s advisor HT Imam said it was yet to be decided that the parliament would be in place or not during the election.
It would be settled after the discussion with the EC, he said.
