Dhaka and Washington are set to sign two memorandums of understandings (MoU) on cooperation on counterterrorism and counter-narcotics during Home Minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir’s upcoming visit to the United States on July 11-12. According to the programme schedule, on the day of his arrival, the Home Minister will visit a training centre of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Quantico, Virginia where he will view the firing range and hostage rescue demonstration.
Later, he is scheduled to meet either acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism Jerry Lanier or Deputy Coordinator Justin Siberell.
The Home Minister will meet Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman at the State Department. The MoU on counterterrorism will be signed at the treaty room of the State Department.
He will also hold a meeting with Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Robert Blake.
On July 12, Alamgir will meet either FBI Director Robert Mueller or his deputy at the FBI headquarters.
He will also attend a combined meeting at the FBI headquarters to be attended by deputy assistant attorney general Bruce Swartz and International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program director R Carr Trevillian.
The Home Minister will meet chief of operations of the Drug Enforcement Administration James Capra and the MoU on counter-narcotics will be signed.
When asked about the meeting of between the Home Minister and the FBI Director, US Ambassador Dan Mozena said, “ I hope so. It’s always hard to say and I am sitting here. He (Home Minister) wanted to go to Quantico where FBI has a training school. I know that’s been planned.”
