South Africa plunder USA
Bangladesh comprehensively won their second match against Japan by ten wickets on the second day of the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers at BKSP-2 in Savar yesterday. In the day’s other matches Pakistan won their second match in a row against Ireland by eight wickets at the Fatullah stadium, Sri Lanka won easily against the Netherlands by seven wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium and South Africa crushed USA by 198 runs at BKSP-3.
BANGLADESH-JAPAN
Japan won the toss and decided to bat, which proved critical as they were bowled out for only 38 in 28.3 overs finding the spin of Bangladeshi skipper and player of the match Salma Khatun and Suktara Rahaman unplayable as they both went on to take five wickets each giving away just 14 runs between them.
The hosts chased down the meagre total in just 4.4 overs as openers Ayesha Akhter and Suktara Rahaman took all of the Japanese bowlers to task.
The win gives Bangladesh some much-needed confidence and hope and they now have to win at least one more match to guarantee qualification to the Super Six stage and will target their match against Ireland on Friday as a must-win.
“This win is a step closer to reaching the next round. This will also work as motivation in winning our game against Ireland,” Salma Khatun said at the post match press conference.
IRELAND-PAKISTAN
Ireland won the toss and decided to bat and were bowled out for 140 in 44.3 overs with one-down Jill Whelan top-scoring with 35 and Pakistan bowler Sadia Yousuf taking 4-19.
In reply Pakistan reached the target with ease, losing just two wickets in 32.2 overs with all four batswomen getting amongst the runs.
The win gives Pakistan two wins in two matches and virtually ensures their progression to the next round while their second loss in as many matches means Ireland will have to win all of their remaining group stage matches if they are to qualify for the next round from Group B.
NETHERLANDS-SRI LANKA
The Netherlands won the toss and decided to bat but the Sri Lankan bowling attack proved too much as they could only make 61, losing all their wickets in 41.3 overs.
In reply Sri Lanka briskly chased down the total in 14.2 overs losing three wickets.
This win for the Lankans means they have won one of their two matches while the Dutch have yet to open their account having played just the one game so far.
SOUTH AFRICA-USA
Winning the toss, the Proteas chose to bat and scored a mammoth 343 runs against USA. Both their openers Shandre Fritz and Trisha Chetty made nineties (93 and 95 respectively) in a 200 run opening partnership.
In reply USA never looked like chasing down the total, ending up with 145-9 in their 50 overs.
