Husband arrested
A group of unknown criminals strangled a housewife at a South Banasree residence of Khilgaon in the capital yesterday evening.
The deceased was identified as Sumi Begum, 38.
Police arrested her husband Mahfuzur Rahman Rana, an employee of a shop in Paltan, in this connection.
Three youths entered the ground-floor residence of Sumi around 6:00pm identifying themselves as cable mechanics.
The criminals then tied hands, legs and face of Jesmin Akhter, domestic help of the house, with rope and left her lying at the dining room.
“Later they entered Sumi’s bed room and strangled her,” Jesmin told reporters.
After half-an-hour of the incident, neighbours heard the groaning of Jesmin and rescued her. They found Sumi’s body lying on the floor of her bedroom.
Sumi’s husband Rana was at his work place in Paltan during the incident.
On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered Sumu’s body that bore marks of injury around her neck.
Sumi’s brother Md Mosharraf filed a murder case with Khilgaon Police Station.
Officer-in-Charge of the police station Nazimuddin said the criminals did not loot anything from the house.
They also did not harm Sumi’s six-year-old son who was in another room.
The OC said they are yet to reveal the motive behind the killing.
