A jampacted audience enjoyed timeless Tagore songs performed by the talented singers on Tuesday at the Chhayanaut auditorium.
Chhayanaut Sangeskritik Kendrea organised the two-day Rabindra-Utsab celebrating the Nobel Laureate poet’s 151st birth anniversary.
The opening day programme of the festival began with a group dance recital by Chhayanaut artistes synchronised with the Tagore song Mama chitte nitte nrittye.
The group rendition of Kothao amar hariye jawar nei mana created a joyful ambiance at the hall. Pratik Indu presented Nittya tomar jey phul while Tania Mannan rendered Sada thako anande. Kanchan Mostafa also delighted the audience by presenting Bipulo taranga re.
Dipti Das, Sushmita Ahmed Bonna and Jhuma Khan’s performance of Aaj sraban-er amantrone, Jibone abar joto ananda and Nibhrito praner debota received much audience acclaims.
Artistes also displayed a colourful dance recital synchronised with Tagore song Baaje baaje rammobina baaje.
Artistes of Jatiyo Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parisad’s presented Tomar ananda oi elo and Badhan chherar sadhan hobey in chorus. Chhayanaut artistes’ chorus performance of Anander oi sagor hotey was also equally enjoyable.
Earlier, at the programme, Tagore researcher Binayek Sen read out an essay on the great poet where he revealed Rabindranath as a stern devotee of humanity in terms of his ideology. Sanjida Khatun, the president of Chhayanaut, inaugurated the festival delivering a welcome speech.
A housdeful audience enjoyed the show till the end. Rokeya Haque, a student of Dhaka University, told New Age that she loved the performance though she also thinks that Chhayanaut auditorium is not suitable for such programme in terms of audience capacity.
While, Shahin-Uz-Zaman, another student, told New Age, ‘The programme was colourful and entertaining.’
