Discussants observe at a commemorative programme
Iconic author Humayun Ahmed was analysed as a rare talent by the speakers who attended his first death anniversary programme held on Saturday at the Bengal Shilpalaya at Dhanmondi.
Humayun was an author who has been able to keep a nation mesmerised for over 20 years only by his writing. This is rare not only in the country
but also in the world, they observed. They also shed light on other talents of Humayun as a creative personality such as a filmmaker, a lyricist and a painter. Fifteen publishers, which used to publish Humayun Ahmed’s books jointly organised the programme to mark his death anniversary that actually falls on July 19.
Professor emeritus Anisuzzaman, professor Shafi Ahmed, advisor to the former caretaker government Rasheda K Chowdhury, Bangla daily Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman, managing director of Channel-i Faridur Reza Sagor, trustee of the Liberation War Museum Mafidul Haque, Humayun’s widow Meher Afroz Shaon and his brother cartoonist Ahsan Habib delivered speeches at the programme.
‘He was a multi-dimensional talent. He kept his brilliance in every creative arena he touched. Research should be conducted on Humayun’s works,’ said professor Anisuzzaman, who is also the chairman of Bangladesh National Museum.
‘Humayun Ahmed could easily portray a character skillfully through his use of words. The way he used to reveal the inner conflicts of his characters in simple words is amazing and made his novels so spontaneous,’ said Mafidul Haque, a former classmate of Humayun Ahmed at Dhaka College.
Meher Afroz Shaon requested the publishers to take initiatives to translate Ahmed’s books into other languages so that his creations can reach people in other parts of the world. The programme also included display of some images of Humayun captured by noted photographer Nasir Ali Mamun
