A woman received burn injuries as her husband and his first wife allegedly threw acid on her early yesterday at the city’s Mirpur.
Victim Shahnaz, 38, who received acid burns on her right leg was taken to the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Police have detained the victim’s husband Shahed Ali and his first wife Sheuli Begum in this connection.
She claimed to have opened the door at about 5:15am after hearing knocks following which Shahed clamped his hands over her mouth, said Towhidul Islam, sub inspector of Shah Ali Police Station.
Then Sheuli broke open a bottle containing acid, poured it in a ‘plastic bowl’ and poured the liquid on her right leg, Shahnaz alleged.
Later, she informed the police who admitted her to the hospital at about 6:00am.
Shahed, a house painter, lived with his first wife and children at Darussalam of Mirpur, while Shahnaz used to live by herself in a tin shed house in Block C.
Shahnaz filed a case accusing the two in this connection.
