Mumbai: After her scintillating and confident show at the Miss World 2008 pageant held in South Africa, India`s Parvathy Omanakuttan, the first-runner up reveals that she is rapturous over her success, but unsure if the winner was deserving. Her confidence and poise throughout the gala was exemplary. On being announced as the first-runner up, the world witnessed a sight of controlled elation, and a graceful acceptance of losing the top crown. Still, she confesses to the feeling of having lost the final battle.
In an interview to a news daily Parvathy exclaimed that she was happy to be back ‘home’, yet disappointed!
“My victory would have been more special if I would have won the Miss World title, as it was never my dream to be a runner up. So my efforts, confidence and hard work would have actually paid if I would have won the pageant. Right now, there`s nothing great to feel happy about.”
It feels like being at home and I can see many similarities between my country (India) and South Africa. From warmth, hospitality to great cultures to having two most influential men – Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi, it`s like being in my own country.”
Reaching the Top 5 was in itself a real challenge for the lass. Yet, she smiled her way through the ramp and walked away with that trademark poise even at the finale.
There was tension, anxiety and shades of nervousness, but Parvathy was always at ease.
“Frankly, there was nothing much going in my mind or heart. And I was really very confident that I will make it to the final three winners. But the moment results were announced, I was extremely shocked. I don`t know whether the most deserving one has won or not”, Parvathy was quoted as saying.
Whatever the results, now all can confess that Parvathy, India is proud of you!
