Shahiduzzaman Selim tells New Age
Popular actor-director Shahiduzzaman Selim will perform in three teleplays today as part of the Eid celebrations programmes chalked out by Boishakhai TV,
SATV and Desh TV.
Selim plays the lead in Dipankar Dipon’s teleplay Tamannar Janya which will be aired at 8:40 pm on Boishakhi TV. He performs together with his peer Tauquir Ahmed in the teleplay Tabuo, written by Shyamol Bhaduri and directed by Samrat Naser, which will be aired tonight at 7:30pm on SATV.
Moreover, Selim is one of the lead actors in his self directed seven-episode drama series Se Je Dakatia Banshi, which Desh TV airs everyday at 9:00pm as part of the channel’s weeklong Eid special programmes.
He has also directed a teleplay titled Hafiz Mama, written by Litu Sakhawat, which will be aired on NTV at 8:10pm on Tuesday.
Of the special teleplays and serials Selim acted in this Eid, he considers his performance in the teleplay Ekjon Bikkhyato Loker Mrittur-o Por remarkable. ‘I enjoyed my performance in the role of a noted filmmaker in Shahriar Nazim Joy’s telefilm. It depicts an intense and thrilling story,’ Selim told New Age.
Ekjon Bikkhyato Loker Mrittur-o Por will be aired tomorrow at 3:10pm on Channel 9.
The actor further said that he got appreciation for his acting in the role of a fraud fortuneteller in Mahmud Didar’s teleplay Nari that NTV aired on Thursday. ‘Sadia Islam Mou performed in the role of a women journalist in the play opposite to me,’ Selim said.
Shahiduzzaman Selim said that he does not prefer to act in too many plays in the Eid celebrations. ‘I select a few good plays and try to give my maximum effort. I believe acting in too many productions would naturally degrade the quality,’ Selim said.
He selects the offers considering the quality of the scripts and directors.
Shahiduzzaman Selim, who has attained popularity acting in diverse characters, further said, ‘I always prefer to enact diverse characters so that I never appear monotonous to the viewers.’
The small screen actor is also quite regular in silver screen productions these days. ‘I just finished my shooting in Zahidur Rahim Anjon’s government grant winning film Raincoat, which is based on Akhtaruzzaman Ilias’ story on the war of independence.’
Raincoat is the seventh film in Selim’s acting career. Recently, Selim has been nominated for the national film award 2012 in the best anti hero category for his performance in Redowan Rony’s film Chorabali
Selim began his acting career in theatre in the late 1970s and a decade later, he emerged as a popular TV actor. He also attained popularity directing teleplays and serials.
‘Acting is my passion and I want to carry on acting till my death. I also enjoy my directorial endeavours,’ Selim said.
