The International Cricket Council (ICC) has loosened COVID-19 rules for the current T20 World Cup in Australia. Players that test positive will be allowed to compete.
The ICC says there won’t be any required testing during the competition and there won’t be an isolation time if a player contracts COVID-19. Instead, the ICC asks team doctors to make the decision and “to assess whether it is suitable”
for players to compete if they contract COVID-19. This week, the mandatory COVID-19 isolation rules imposed by the Australian Federal Government came to an end, according to a cricket.com.au report.
The Commonwealth Games in Birmingham earlier this year adopted a similar stance, wherein people who tested positive for the virus were handled on a case-by-case basis and not necessarily barred from participation.
Australia won the 2021 T20 World Cup, which was held in the UAE and followed strict bio-security procedures.
