Bangladesh’s six icon cricketers are all set not to be auctioned during the players transfer, designed in the line of players by choice through lottery system for the upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League, said BPL officials on Saturday. BPL, domestic Twenty20 tournament will resume with six teams from November 21 after a gap of two years because of being hit hard by the match-fixing and payment dispute issues in previous editions that prompted BPL governing council to come with the new system.
According to BPL officials, six cricketers are chosen as icons and each one of them is expected to represent respectively for one of the franchises for the price tag of Tk 35 lakh, highest in the local players category.
‘We don’t want them to be in the players’ transfer,’ Ismail Haider Mallick, BPL’s governing council secretary told reporters.
‘We are now trying to negotiate the dealings between them and franchises and expect to finalise their teams beforehand so that they can be helpful in forming the squad for their respective franchises,’ he said.
According to insiders Sakib al Hasan is expected to play for Dhaka Dynamites though there is a buzz that he might
feature for Sylhet if Mushfiqur Rahim replaces him in Dhaka.
Mashrafee bin Murtaza is expected to feature for Comilla Victorians while Tamim Iqbal has all the chances of representing his hometown Chittagong.
Chances are high that all-rounder Nasir Hossain will join Rangpur while Barisal is expected to make their plans with Mahmudullah for the tournament starting on November 21.
