International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-1) on Monday served a notice upon the New York-based human rights organisation Human Rights Watch (HRW), asking it to explain as to why contempt charge would not be initiated against it for its report on the verdict against professor Ghulam Azam and activities of the tribunal. The three-member tribunal, headed by its chairman Justice ATM Fazle Kabir, asked HRW to send its reply within three weeks time and set September 30 as the next date to hear the issue.
Brad Adams, executive director of the HRW in Asia, his associate Storm Tiv and board of directors of the organisation were made respondents in the notice.
The copy of the order should be sent to HRW through the ministry of foreign affairs, the order suggested.
The tribunal issued the notice as it found the HRW comments contemptuous on the verdict against Ghulam Azam, former ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, and also about the activities of the tribunal in a statement, published on August 16.
