Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday said if opposition leader Khaleda Zia returns to power she would build a new building replacing the much-talked-about
“Hawa Bhaban” to initiate a “new trend of corruption.”
“If voted to power, Khaleda Zia will build a country of corruption and militancy. She will introduce a new trend of corruption, not a new type of government,” the prime minister told a public meeting organized by her party the ruling Awami League at North Mugda.
Addressing an iftar party on Thursday in the city, opposition leader and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia said if voted to power through a fair election in future, they would form a new type of government and not make any compromise with “injustice and corruption.”
In a scathing criticism against BNP, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is also the president of Awami League, said: “the opposition party does politics of militancy, killings, assassinations and rape. That’s why I call upon all concerned to stay alert against them.”
The prime minister urged the people to vote for boat again for continuation of the development activities in the country and enable her party Awami League to finish its unfinished tasks. “Most of the promises we made to the people have been fulfilled; some promises which are yet to be fulfilled will be made so in future,” she added.
Sheikh Hasina said that there had been a massive development work across the country since her government took over power. In this connection, she pointed out that when they left power in 2001, electricity production in the country was 4,200 mw. But BNP brought it down to 3,000 mw which was again raised to 6,200 mw when AL returned to power in 2008, she added.
Referring to various development activities in the education sector, the prime minister said her government has started providing stipends and distribution of free books to the students, relieving their parents of worries for the education of their children. “Only the Awami League government provides this kind of facilities, not any other government,” she claimed.
On the ongoing war crimes trial, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had begun the trial of the war criminals. Since we took over power, we started to complete their trials and give verdicts, she said adding that it was one of their electoral promises they made to the people.
Earlier, the prime minister inaugurated the 500-bed Mugda General Hospital.
