Entries of 8 finalists sent to Japan
The illustrated diaries portraying daily events and thoughts in the form of a picture and a short essay are on display at the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The displayed 344 enikkis, the Japanese term for illustrated diaries, have been selected from the hundreds of entries from the schoolchildren across the country who participated in this competition.
The children depicted various stories of their daily lives in a colourful manner for the contest with the theme ‘here is my life’. And most of these enikkis, which will be displayed till today, portray the things the children miss in their urban lifestyle such as villages, trees and rivers.
This is the national level competition of Mitsubishi Asian Children’s Enikki Festa, which has been organised biannually by Mitsubishi Public Affairs Committee together with the Asian Federation of UNESCO Clubs and Associations and the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan.
A five-member local jury, headed by the eminent artist Rafiqun Nabi, has selected eight best enikkis. These will be sent to Japan to be further judged by another jury in order to award the best one out of the eight.
The selected young artists are Ayoka Pal, Jaya Sarkar, Ispita Ashrar Athai, Nujhat Sayadat, Arnika Tahsin, Ahmed Zubayer, Nabadoy Saha and Hamidur Rahman.
The creators of the best illustrated diaries from the 24 participating countries of the ongoing 10th edition of Mitsubishi Asian Children’s Enikki Festa will be invited to Japan to receive their awards.
All of the eight selected child artists by the national level jury are quite confident about their work and hope to visit Japan as the best artist. ‘I’m really happy that my artwork has been sent to Japan and I wish to go there as a winner,’ Nabadoy Saha from Kishoreganj Govt Boys’ High School, told New Age.
Another confident contestant Hamidur Rahman said that he got really boosted and wants to become a professional artist in the future.
