Virat Kohli stroked his maiden Test double century as India took control in the first Test against West Indies, reaching 404-4 in first session of the second day on Thursday.
Having chosen to bat first on winning the toss, the Indian captain led the way with a thoroughly authoritative innings of 200 not out, decorated with 24 fours off 281 deliveries so far.
Kohli, unbeaten on 143 overnight, easily surpassed his career best innings of 169 runs and reached his first double century in 43 Tests with a single off debutant off-spinner Roston Chase.
His innings is the highest innings by an Indian captain on foreign soil.
He put on 105 for the third wicket with Shikhar Dhawan, who fell lbw for 84 sweeping at Devendra Bishoo on the stroke of the tea interval on the first day.
Ravichandran Ashwin was batting on 64 alongside Kohli when this report was filed.
