A three-day scientific conference begins today at Hotel Agrabad in the Chittagong city with an aim to create a network for the implementation of One World One Health.
The fisheries and livestock minister Abdul Latif Biswas is expected to be the chief guest of the 8th Annual International Scientific Conference 2010 to be opened by prime minister’s health and family welfare affairs adviser Professor Syed Modasser Ali.
Professor Abdus Sattar Mandol, vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Professor Shah Monir, director general of health department, and director general of livestock department Mohammed Ashraf Ali would be the special guests while vice-chancellor of the Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Professor Nitish Chandra Debnath will preside over the conference, said a press release.
A number of scientists, researchers, educationists, environmentalists and biologists from different countries, including UK, USA, Denmark, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal, will attend the conference, the university sources said.
‘The conference is very important this year in the backdrop of spreading animal-borne diseases, including Anthrax, Swine Flu and Avian Influenza, across the world in the recent period,’ said Professor Nitish Chandra.
A total of 49 keynote papers and research articles, including three papers on anthrax, four on avian influenza, three on Nipah virus, six on food security and ten on other diseases, would be presented at different sessions of the conference, sources added.
Meanwhille, a two-day scientific workshop, organised by Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University concluded on Wednesday at the same venue.
The Bangladesh Chhatra League, veterinary university unit, brought out a procession at around 11:00am from in front of the commerce college near Agrabad Hotel on Wednesday, demanding removal of the vice-chancellor.
