The plan for bringing 105 police stations of 16 districts from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar under the intra-computer network is yet to be implemented completely. Police have claimed that most of the work on it is almost complete, though they could not maintain several deadlines to bring the police stations under the network. However, a high police official told the news agency today that the work on bringing 105 police stations of 16 districts under intra-computer network would be completed soon. He did not mention the exact date to wrap up the work. Three committees formed earlier for quick completions of the unfinished tasks are supervising the work.
Police launched the project titled ‘Computerization of Police Stations’ at a cost of over Taka 29.80 crore in 2009, in line with the government’s election pledge to build a ‘Digital Bangladesh’. Police stations of 25 districts of Khulna-Barisal belt will be brought under the project. Japanese Debt Cancellation Fund (JDCF) has funded the project. Each of the 105 police stations has already been provided with two computers and
some of them have been given internet connections.
With completion of intra-computer network within the police stations, all activities including filing of cases, general diaries, keeping records and sharing all sorts of communication among the police stations will be conducted through computers.
