Abahani Limited’s newly-recruited Iranian coach Akbar Ali will arrive in Dhaka on December 20 to take charge of the Dhanmondi-based club ahead of the seventh edition of the domestic football league, scheduled to get underway from December 27.
Abahani, who were ousted by Sheikh Jamal Dhammondi Club in the last four of the season-opening Federation Cup, were in search of a new coach as the previous coach, Australian Nathan Hall departed without notice just a day before the start of the season’s curtain raiser.
Four-time league champions Abahani will now be guided by Akbar, who led the Sky Blues to the Federation Cup three seasons ago to go with the league title he won in 2011.
Meanwhile, local giant Mohammedan Sporting Club are also on the lookout for a new manager after their coach Saiful Bari Titu agreed to join the Bangladesh Football Federation from January in the role of an adviser-cum-coach.
The Black and Whites are currently weighing the option of recruiting a foreign coach as they are looking at three bio-datas before deciding who will guide the Super Cup holders in the upcoming season.
