The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority plans to simplify the process for obtaining a driving license from December, , an official announced on Tuesday.
To make the process simpler, the authorities will collect biometric data from applicants prior to driving tests, allow them to make payments online, and send out licenses in the mail to successful applicants.
Currently, if applicants pass driving tests, they have to pay fees in the bank, return to the test centre to give biometrics, and finally receive the licence from BTRA.
The applicants have to come to BRTA offices several times to fulfil the procedure, which often causes suffering.
‘Now we will take biometrics before the test. If passed in tests, an applicant would be able to log into our website to pay driving licence fees,’ said BRTA director [engineering] Sitangshu Shekhar Biswas.
He added that applicants would be able to collect the licence by mail instead of coming to the office in person.
Sitangshu said that the system for paying and collecting licences in person would also continue.
Sitangshu hoped that the ‘easier one-stop service’ would make queues shorter in front of BRTA offices, reducing the suffering of service takers.
The BRTA director said that they were hoping to start this service on December 1.
